A straw that broke the camel’s back

After excessive workload, driving and exertion my body had to break off… and it happened on last Saturday. When I got up I was not feeling perfectly fine, some back pains, cold and cough, but I thought it would pass away.

In the morning I finished my pending bank transactions and other overdue works. In the evening I went to see Sarkar along with my colony friends. Then freaking out with friends the whole evening and the resistance in my body finally said “That’s it” “can’t handle anymore” My friends could trace out from my face that I need some rest and I really needed some. I went home and was straight down on bed. After sometime, took some medicines and went off to sleep…

Sunday morning I was slightly better but my back pain continued to trouble me… I guess I had an overdose of driving and working… In the evening our old housemaid aunty came and gave me a back massage, actually it was a must. Aunty has been working @ our home since I was 15yrs and now her daughter in law works… I mean in a city like Mumbai where it’s difficult to trust a person we had such a wonderful and trust worthy people. I still remember, she used to have one bunch of duplicate keys of our house so that she can come at her convenience to do the work. She has now got into massaging work. After that 20 mins massage I got some relief. When mumma was offering her dues, she initially refused and said “Apne ladke ki maalish karungi to paise thode lungi”, but then finally after so much insisting of mom she accepted the money. (I can actually write a separate post for her, she is always kind to us…)

In the evening I was alive enough to meet my friends downstairs and do some TP. My friends knew that my back has gone for a toss, so NV had got some ayurvedic oil for me, so sweet of her. After having my dinner, my sis massaged my back with that oil and heating bag. It was of great relief.

I know I’ve to get into the regular exercise mode, but that’s just not happening… hope to join some gym or swimming atleast some body exercise will happen… I’ve to start with basic brisk walking and warn up exercises, my muscles should realise that they have to perform some other actions than just staying there and growing ;-)

Ok so, I hopped on your blog via Manish's. Your space is pretty informative :)

Massages and hot water bag relieves back pain temporarily, but if you try some streches on a daily basis, it will help you improve your muscle fatigue and spasm. Here are 2 best exerices that works for my back. Takes less than 10 mins but if you practice them regularly it sure will help.

Lie on back with legs straight. Clasp hands behind right knee and slowly pull toward chin, keeping left leg straight. Hold for ten seconds, repeat with left knee.

Another pelvic exercise which really works:
Lie straight on your back with knees bent. Keep feet and lower back flat on floor, raise hips. Hold for ten seconds, release slowly and repeat.

Good luck and hope your back feels better soon.

Hi Puneet
very true , gym will definately keep u fit , specially after whole days work ,when u r tired and feel worn out , if u workout for 30-45 mins , u will feel much energetic and it will also help to increase u r stamina over a period of time. Although , i know it becomes difficult to keep up with that energy to go to gym , after the day's hectic schedule. But to gain something , u need to loose something. Bye , Take Care.

Hope you're starting to feel better after all the advice you're getting! :) What I know of back pain is that much of it stems from muscle fatigue in other areas, forcing your back to overcompensate, and thus, putting extra strain on it. Typically, if you have a strong centre, or core, your back will be healthier too. So even though it sounds funny, working on strengthening your stomach muscles and core body strength will help your back a great deal in the long run. Hope it helps, and feel better soon!
