When truck hit my bike

It was the Friday evening and I was on my way home. Everything was usual until I stopped at Jogeshwari signal.

I was about to leave my office when my colleague asked me to wait for 5 min as he was also joining me. I gave him a lift till the bus stop and then headed towards the highway. I really had no idea about what the coming time had got for me. Just recalling the happenings of the whole day I was enjoying my ride.

It was the pedestrian crossing at Jogeshwari when the signal just turned from Orange to Red and I decided to stop my bike and not jump that signal. I wish I should have…

In just 15 seconds a Sumo raced in a great speed and in next 15 seconds a truck came and hit my bike from behind. “BANG”…. “$#%^%^#%^#^^”

My bike and I fell down on the road. I was shocked to the core.

Thanks to my luck that there were no injuries as such. I got up immediately and shouted at the truck driver. (#$#$#$###$##$)

In seconds huge crowd gathered over there. A fellow helped me to pick my bike and took it off the road to park it. The whole crowd yelled at the truck driver and told him to take the truck off the road.

I had lost my composure; I didn’t know how to react. I was thankful that I was safe but my bike’s taillight and reflector were crushed into pieces. Also there was some damage to the side body of the bike. Everything happened so fast that there was no time to think about anything.

As soon as the truck driver came out of the truck 2-3 people just slapped him left right. (“Thad”… “thad”… “thad”). The crowd was yelling at him. He was brought near my bike.

He was a very young chap, might be 21-22 years old. I could clearly see the fear in his eyes of getting beaten by the public or being handed over to the police. He explained to me that he tried his best to put on the breaks but still was unsuccessful to prevent the accident.

Thankfully I didn’t over reacted and yelled or slapped him else public would have taken him left n right, up and down, in and out. More over as there was no major injury to me things actually cooled down to a certain level.

It was the public who told me not go to the police, as it will be a big scene. They told me to just take away the damages. It was the public who negotiated with him from Rs.500 to the final claim of Rs.300. I was still not out of the shock to really take control of the situation or command anything. I was just accepting the happenings.

Thanks to Mumbai public, you really don’t have to worry; they are there to take care of everything.

The driver handed me the money and went away, the public also got scattered. Some asked me if I was fine? And some gave their comments on the possible damages to the bike.

I knew 300 Rs would be peanuts considering the damage but I was really thankful to god for being safe.

People say riding a bike in Mumbai is risky. As my dad always says, “You might be the best driver but there are others on the road, you may have to pay for their negligence”. But then accidents can happen anywhere. That is why there are said ACCIDENTS.

When I took the bike and headed towards my home, I was not the same. My confidence had gone for a toss, my hands were shivering and I could hear my heartbeats. Not many bike riders are lucky to escape so easily after being hit by a truck. It was my destiny that accident happened without my fault and it was my luck that I was safe.

Monday morning my bike will hit the road again, may not with the same resilience. For the time being no speeding above 60, no sharp turns and sleek cuts. But soon I’ll be riding the bike with same confidence and fun.

I know there is someone above to take care of me. This accident has made me more mature, atleast I know how much to bargain for the damages next time ;-)

Indian Idol - Grand Finale

Thursday is back and so is the final of Indian Idol.
Two very talented youngsters will be competing for the glamorous title – Indian Idol.
Amit Sana and Abhijeet Sawant, the individuals, who were hardly known to anyone, are on the lips of almost everyone. They have already become public icons.
No matter who ever wins, the contest will be worth watching.

Amit Sana - Indian Idol - Finalist

For me both are favourites but Amit takes an upper hand. The number of votes I have given to him is more than to any other contestant. He sings amazingly good.

Abhijeet - Indian Idol - Finalist

Abhijeet has got better with every round and is singing awesomely. I’m sure his smile will take away a lot of female votes.

So who will be the Indian Idol... Make your choice...
Amit Sana ??? or Abhijeet Sawant ???

Alexander - The Movie

Alexander

Few days back there was a column in TOI regarding Indian distributors reducing the length of Hollywood movies to fit into their show timings.
The movie Alexander is one such good example.
I saw this movie at Movie Time – Goregaon and was surprised to know that Alexander died in India.
The whole movie was fantastic but the climax was bothering me. I was curious and I searched the Internet to know about Alexander. Nowhere was it mentioned that he died in India. Of course he didn’t.

Previous Saturday I bought a CD of Alexander in which the whole movie was covered. There were total of 3 CDs to cover the entire movie. In the theatre almost 20-30 min of the movie is not shown. This is such a disgrace to a wonderfully made movie.

Aman & Mini are Hopeless on Indian Idol

Indian Idol

On Friday, 18 Feb, results of Indian Idol were declared. The 3 top contestants – Abhijeet, Amit Sana and Rahul Vaidya were all very good but one had to leave and so did Rahul Vaidya getting the least number of votes. This teenage guy has got a great future ahead and showed commendable maturity at the time when the results were declared. It’s really tough for anyone who leaves a competition.

The way, the hosts Aman Varma and Mini Mathur are handling the results part of the show is more pathetic than the main show. I really liked Anu Malik’s statement that if he chooses to send someone out of the show it would be Aman. Unfortunately it was taken in a laughter mood. (Not sure whether it was intended to).

The drama both the hosts create while declaring the results is cheap and discouraging. They asked some weird questions to Rahul after declaring the results, like how he was feeling after being voted out. What a baseless question to ask, what answer do you expect, Mini from Rahul? It was getting difficult for him to speak and these guys were asking hopeless questions.

More ever they also asked Rahul’s mother, what she was feeling. What do you expect her to say? Aman and Mini, I think you both are quite grown up to know what he or his family would be feeling at that moment and I’m sure the audience is also. If you don’t know what to ask better shut your mouth.

Later on, Mini added Rahul was out because audience didnot vote properly. Who the hell is she to make a comment like that. 35 Lacs votes are claimed to have received for the finals and they didn’t vote properly! Surprising! There is indeed no doubt that all the 3 contestants were very good but one has to lose. The show is structured in such a manner that you need more fan followers (who are voting for you) to take away the Indian Idol crown than anything else. As per the rules you have to vote for your favourite contestant and not vote against the one you don’t like. The fan followers of Amit and Abhijeet were more to take them to the finals. You can’t blame anyone for that. That’s common sense.

Inspite of getting so much of limelight and opportunity the hosts were so pale and pathetic. I think Sony television should come up with another talent hunt but this time for the comperes. But who will anchor the show. Hope fully not Aman and Mini.

All the very best to Amit and Abhijeet for the grand finale. I have voted for Amit Sana since he was in top 11. Hope he recovers completely for the finals. I have also voted for Abhijeet since last 4-5 rounds. He is getting better with each round.

I really hope the hosts handle the finals in a more respectable manner.

Celebrating Love

It was 14th Feb morning and not to my surprise my message box got filled with message - Happy Valentines Day. The whole day along there were n number of mails and messages…
One keeps listening to things like what u bought for her, where are you taking her in the evening. Did you send her flowers? And what not……………

Love has so many form- the physical, platonic, emotional, romantic, filial, reverent – but its only in recent times that we in India have brought it out in the open and commercialised love as on Valentines day.

We have had so many well known couples who have defied society, overcome odds and lived and died for love. Radha cared for no one and was madly, badly and totally involved in her love for Kanha. Shakuntala forgot everything in her obsession with Dushyanta, Sanyukta garlanded the statute of Prithviraj and he magically appeared and carried her off, Heer and Ranjha defied society and so did Shireen and Farhad. These are just a handful of well-known names. There have been and are millions of couples, some of whom hardly ever get publicity outside their own houses.

Rakhsa Bandhan, bhau-beej and other festivals have observed another aspect of love- the brother-sister one. Guru-shishyas, parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren, friends also have love and affection for each other and deep feelings. The emotion of love is age old and has been expressed in various ways. But is only now that the western concept of love has brought emotions into the open.

Ask someone who is in love, whether he needs 14th Feb to express his love, or does he wait for 14th Feb to express his love. For the ones who are in love every day is Valentines Day. You don’t really need just one day in a year to express your love for someone.

Celebrating love the valentine’s way has become very common and well known in India in the past few years. Though basically this day encompasses all the aspects of love, it is taken for granted that it means the romantic love. However, love is a very personal and important emotion, which needs no commercialised declaration. Can cards ever express the first flush of love? Can mechanical words give subtle infections of words, of whispers, of secret looks, of clandestine meetings?

Sales of the greeting cards and gift outlets for the month of February are more than the sales for the rest of the year. This shows how much people are crazy about celebrating love on Valentines Day. I wonder how long those greeting cards are kept with them, which they think, carry their love and emotion!

Love need not be expressed by buying a colourful card, or sending a two liner and getting it published in a newspaper column. Love can be expressed in an infinite number of ways and every couple have their own methods, their own ways of exchanging feelings often without words and which they may want to keep secret for ever.

A tender look, a softening of eyes, a delicate brush of a garment expresses much more than pre written words on a card.

Respecting and honouring the loved one, obeying, having faith and confidence are the other ways of expressing the feeling of love. This is an emotion that cannot be tailor-made. One can make oneself like a person but loving is totally different.

Often love has no reason. Love can develop between the two most unsuitable persons or the two most unlikely and one cannot just pinpoint the exact reason for anyone falling in love. Commercial concerns have cashed in on the emotions of love and have made a ready and easy outlet for those who want to express their feelings. As an exciting novelty, as an interesting pastime, this form of expression may be all right. But when it comes down to the real deep feeling of love, no cold-blooded words will ever replace the real thing.

“Phool Khilte hn, baharo ka sama hota hn
aise hi mausam mey to pyaar jawan hota hn
aisi bataon ko hoton se nahin kehte,
ye fasana to aankhon se bayan hota hn”

Thats Me...!!
